Book Review / Aces Up by Lauren Barnholdt ~ Debra’s Book Cafe

There was no climax or resolution. I just wish I could have loved it more: I’d give it 2 stars or 2. All in all not one of my favs of Barnholdt.

Let me just start out by saying that Lauren Barnholdt has to secretly be a fourteen year old girl. Fake IDs are one thing everyone needs them to drinkbut fake birth certificates?

For that, I will laurdn my ten dollars an hour, with no tips. She never actually proved to us she was any good in math, she just kept saying it. It felt a bit too amateurish to me.

She basically tricks everyone into thinking she’s working as a waiter uo some faraway diner that none ever decides to visit her at. I found this story particular interesting because it feels exciting knowing that a groups has a game plan to win money.

Throughout the book this girl just whines and complains and says the dumbest things. Things change and I felt like it was okay afterwards. Return to Book Page. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up.

Nov 29, Ariana rated it did not like it. Want to Read saving…. It was a delightfully fun read and I wished it coud have been longer.

With summer finally here, Aces Up is the perfect book to lay outside under the sun and read. I pick it up and watch as she starts loading my tray with the little plastic cups of drinks that are sitting on the bar, already filled. I felt like she juggled both baenholdt backwards. All in all, this was a very surprising read! The plot of the story was exciting but I feel like the book would have been better without the impolite language.

I just didn’t want to be the jerk lairen gave it one star.

So cheers to Shannon. Soon Shannon’s caught up in a web of lies and deceit that makes worrying about tuition money or a high school crush seem like kid stuff.

She’s been admitted to Wellesley, but her dad barnhldt lost his job, and somehow she has to come up with a year of tuition herself.
